Itumeleng Tumi Dlamini

Tumi is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa. She has a multi-disciplinary background in public policy, public-private cooperation, corporate law, and multi-stakeholder partnerships. She is currently an Advisor to the African Peer Review Mechanism responsible for leading and promoting corporate governance standards and initiatives on the African continent and for expanding global partnerships for good governance in Africa. She has worked and assessed corporate governance policies, standards, and practices in Uganda, Egypt, Liberia, South Africa, Mozambique, and several other countries. She is also the founding director of the African Network on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises (37 African Member states) and is currently the Lead Convenor of the development of the African Principles and Guidelines on Corporate Governance, a joint project of APRM, the African Development Bank, the AfDB and the UN Global Compact.

Prior to this role, she was the Executive Director at Master Builders South Africa, a leading business federation representing South Africa’s strategic construction and infrastructure industry in South Africa. Her primary role was business leadership, lobbying parliament on business, economic, trade, and labour policies that affect the development and sustainability of the industry.
Prior to joining MBSA, Tumi held the executive positions of Head of International Relations and Africa Legacy Projects at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Organising Committee South Africa (LOC) where she was responsible for managing and coordinating international affairs of the World Cup.
Ms. Dlamini practiced law at an international law firm, Bowmans in South Africa and in London. She specialized in Corporate, Commercial, and Financial Services Law with a specific focus on cross border mergers and acquisitions and privatization of state-owned entities.

She has served on several boards including Business Unity South Africa, an apex South African organization representing all sectors of organized business and whose aim is to ensure that business plays a constructive role in ensuring inclusive economic growth, development, and economic transformation. She also served on the Tourism Enterprise Programme, a public-private partnership funded agency as well as the National Economic Development and Labour Council, a vehicle by which South African government, labour, business, and community organisations seek to cooperate on economic, labour and development issues facing the country. She is passionate about promoting access to quality education and served as the Chairperson of the Board of the CIDA Empowerment Fund, a fund established to build an investment portfolio to secure funding to South Africa’s first tertiary education institution for the economically and socially disadvantaged rural black South Africans.

She holds a Masters in Public Administration and Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, a B Social Sciences Degree, and a postgraduate degree in LLB from the University of Cape Town.
